Recap - October 23: Intentional Hiking Launch Event

Thank you for everyone who joined in the launch event to learn about how Intentional Hiking events will work in the future and discuss: How Can We Improve the Hiking Experience?

Each Intentional Hiking event will be recorded and posted on YouTube up to the conversation portion of the event and will include:

  • A presentation or Q&A with the guest subject matter expert,

  • An introduction to the non-profit partner for the event (a big thanks to Mike Passo of American Trails for the conversation in this launch event),

  • A gear giveaway from a cottage or new hiking business or service (this event featured Triple Crown Coffee and Tough Cutie socks), and

  • A conversation kit for those of you who weren't able to attend the live event, but still want to have a discussion with friends or family on the topic and contribute to the Intentional Hiking community.

Other notes from the event:

  • Thank you to Beth Macinko & and Bethany "Fidget" Hughes for supporting the event behind the scenes. Fidget and another friend and incredible hiker, Neon, finished their 5-year and 20,000+ mile journey last year called Her Odyssey to travel the length of the Americas by non-motorized means, connecting stories of the land and its inhabitants. I hope to have her as a guest on the event in the future to talk about Slow Travel and connecting stories.

  • American Trails hosts a wealth of resources for the hiking community (especially those of you looking to make the transition from hiker to trail builder/advocate). Check out the webinar series, grant opportunities, and job board!

  • Fall event series announcement:

  • The Adventure Scientists event is open for registration, with more event registrations coming soon

  • An Actions page on the website is now live:

    • Share your actions by using #intentionalhiking on your instagram posts of things you want to do or things you did as a result of hiking with intention

    • Share other comments, thoughts, suggestions and more on the page.

    • A more robust and engaging Intentional Hiking community portal will be coming soon!

  • Are you a new or cottage industry gear or hiking brand? Learn more about our giveaway sponsorships by emailing Renee.
