Learn about the many benefits of getting your little ones outside sooner rather than later and hear stories from one mother who hiked 1,200 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail with her young son. Join OutGrown’s executive director Jessica Carrillo Alatorre and thru-hiker and Purple Rain Adventure Skirts founder Mandy “Purple Rain” Bland as the two share tips, benefits, and strategies for spending extended time outside with the future hiking community.

About the Speakers

Jessica Carrillo Alatorre is the executive director of OutGrown, and is inspired by the passion and commitment of the volunteers who drive OutGrown along with the mission that has created the kind of community she wants her girls to be a part of. She is committed to building a future where the outdoors is a safe, accessible space for all families to enjoy, regardless of their race, gender, ability, socioeconomic status, orientation, or religion. Jessica is proud to be raising a generation to love the outdoors.

Mandy “Purple Rain” Bland is a thru-hiker who conceived of the perfect hiking skirt while hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2012. She hacked up an old pair of convertible hiking pants, adding a comfortable waistband and some pockets, then headed back out on trail testing the design on the PCT that following summer. In 2022 she hiked 1,200 miles of the PCT with her 5-year-old son, with both of them wearing Purple Rain Adventure Skirts of course!

Only register if you can attend this event in person

• A recording of each event (excluding the conversation portion) will be uploaded to the Intentional Hiking YouTube channel.
• Each recording will be accompanied by a Conversation Kit which will help you have a discussion on the event's theme with friends and family.

Non-profit Partners

• Each guest can choose a non-profit partner of choice to feature during the event.

• Events will feature gear or product giveaways from new or cottage hiking brands. 
• Need to be present to win.

• Each event will last between 60-90 minutes
